I forgot Nippers

I forgot to post pictures of Nippers, a beach bar and grill on Great Guana Cay in Abaco.  It is a colorful, lively hangout on a great beach and with a pool.

Last Three Photos of The Abacos

These pictures were taken at Treasure Cay ~ If we went back to Abaco, this is where I want to stay.   The beach here is amazing and I found the best shells and some little sand dollars.  Unfortunately, a big rain storm came up after these photos were taken and we had to stay inside and then we had to get on the boat and leave when the rain was over.

Everyone said "You should go to Abaco"

When ever we gush about Exuma, someone tells us we should go to Abaco, so in August we went to Abaco. There are a number of large Cays that you can get to by your rental boat or ferry but it is a lot bigger than the area in Exuma that we explore. There are only a few parts of Abaco that have the turquoise water that glows like Exuma and there are no sand bars to walk on. I love to do that in Exuma. Tom had to snorkel to get some sand dollars, so Abaco is bigger and has deeper water that is not as pretty as Great Exuma. Here are the some of the photos from our trip to The Abacos-we went to Marsh Harbour (the main airport is here) Elbow Cay (rented a house here), Tilloo Cay, Great Guana Cay, Green Turtle Cay, Man Jack Cay, and Treasure Cay. (I like Treasure Cay the most). We also had Tropical Storm Fay around so it was cloudy much of the time and some bad rain storms popped up.   They have problems with the power here - the electricity went out for hours at a time - all the houses have generators.  We didn't like that at all.  The water was in short supply too.

Our May 2008 Exuma trip

We had a great time on our last trip to Exuma. The villa at February point was wonderful.

It is so beautiful here-it is great just to sit and look at the water and the boats.

We are going to try Abaco in August, but I cannot believe it willl be as wonderful as the Exumas are-it maybe more tourist friendly, but it is so close to the USA-I can't see it being like this far south. I will update after I have been there.

The kids loved fishing off the deck and we loved sitting in the Gazebo by the deck.

We did go see the beaches on Little Exuma and the water was a beautiful color-but not really much in the way of shells. We liked the Atlantic side of Stocking Island, pretty and lots of neat shells. On the sand bars we found lots of sand dollars. At the Coco Plum Beach we ate a late lunch and found some sand dollars and my mom found a little sea biscuit. We really loved going to St Francis on Stocking Island. The couple that run the hotel/inn and the restaurant there are so nice. See our new pictures below.

There are more of these kinds of trees in Great Exuma than Palm Trees-this one is the back yard of the house we rented.

I forgot the name of this tree-but they are all over- I will try to find out.

Update:  These trees are called Casuarina, they do provide nice shade but Palm trees are great too~  Thanks Kwanza!

A Beautiful Beach on the Island of Great Exuma

One of the many great, private beaches in Exuma-(it seems private because there is usually no one else around.) All the beaches are public-pull up to one by boat or car and enjoy!
